Casa ChoHom lives among the Mayan ruins of Playacar Fase 1. As you walk through this beautiful gated community along Bahia del Epiritu Santo the three Temples of the Moon stand on your right with stunning views of the turquoise waters and white sands on your left.

The name Chohom comes from the Mayan referring to their annual fisherman's festival. The architecture of Casa Chohom has contemporary lines with a classic layout and traditional Mexican materials. White concrete plaster walls, saltillo tile floors and wood slatted doors and cabinetry provide the canvas for the ethnic fabrics and collected vintage details.

Our Story
Casa Chohom
The house was the first built in Playacar for one of the original developers in 1986. It needed extensive repairs and updates. The renovations took about six months. During this time I made many trips to Playa and read extensively about the Yucatan and Mayan culture. One of the first books I read was an English translation of the defense prepared by Friar Diego de Landa for his appearance before the Spanish Inquisition. Lana was an early leader of the Catholic Church in the Yucatan during the 1500’s. In that position he did his utmost to destroy all traces of Mayan history and culture.
One of the annual celebrations recorded by Landa was Chohom. Chohom was the celebration of fishing and fishermen.
